Quote Title Goes Here

"My dad died when we were kids and my mom worked nights to support us. Now her health is failing and our family relies on her rental property to pay for her care. Prop 21 will be hard on our family."
Irma Vargas,

California Dream

Al’s parents were immigrants from Hong Kong who saved up to buy a few rental units. They taught him that if he worked hard, he could live the “California Dream.”

But Prop 21 repeals legal protections for homeowners like Al. Prop 21 puts hundreds of rent boards in charge of our housing. With bureaucrats able to add housing fees and control our property decisions.

That’s not the Dream – it’s a nightmare. Vote No on 21

Small rental Property Owners Oppose Prop 21

As a nurse who has been on the front lines of this pandemic, I have extreme empathy and compassion for those who are impacted by COVID-19 … But it is simply not fair to create laws that will make it harder for small landlords like me. Prop 21 will cause us to lose our life savings in our homes, while corporate landlords stand by waiting to pounce. It will hurt my family, but also will change the heart of our communities.

If Prop 21 passes, it's not the corporate landlord that get hit - it's small owners like us and our tenants...We rent $400-600 below market value. We work one-on-one with our tenants struggling with COVID-19 hardships. But if Prop 21 passes, small owners like us will get pushed out, and our properties either get taken off the rental market completely or get snapped up by the big corporate companies. This initiative won't help families stay in their homes. Vote No on Prop 21 this November.

Our expenses don’t stop after we pay our mortgages. We’re
regular people - we have two children in college and work hard to put food on the table. We aren’t corporate landlords. My husband and I work full-time, and we have been impacted by COVID-19 as much as everyone. We’re the very definition of ‘mom and pops’, and it’s the small owners like us that refurbish older properties that provide lower rents for the many families that need affordable housing. But it’s bad policies like Proposition 21 that push small owners like us out of the market. Please, don’t make a bad problem worse: Vote No on Prop 21.
